We who are strong

Romans 15:1-13
We who are strong should bear with those who are weak. We who are strong should set aside the things that we want to do to help those who are not able. Jesus came to bear our burdens and insults. As we who claim to follow Him strive to be more like Him, I wonder if this statement can be said about us. In Romans 15:4 states that the things that were written in the past were written to give endurance and encouragement which leads to hope. I wonder if we would write more down about what God has done and is doing if we wouldn't be a more hopeful people. I wonder if we had written down every prayer that God has ever answered if we could encourage people who are struggling to have hope that God does answer prayer. I wonder if we were paying better attention to what God is doing and has done if we wouldn't have more joy in our lives. Several years ago in a small group setting a friend pulled out the lists of prayer requests from a year prior. As he read them all we were all shocked to see that God had answered every prayer and almost all in the way we had hoped. Yet none of us had ever taken the time to thank God or praise Him for all the answered prayer for that year. In his strength he was sharing and helping us with a weakness in our lives. It was at that point that I decided to pay better attention to what God is up to in my life. The impact in my life has been dramatic. It is so much easier to trust God for everything when I see such a long history of His faithfulness. I am sure that I am not perfect in this but my goal is to stop and praise God for all that He is doing and done when I realize it and do my best to make a record and share it with as many people as possible for the praise and glory of His name. Our God is a great and wonderful God may His name be praised forever. So what about you, are you praising and thanking God for all the things that He has done for you? Are you keeping a record of His faithfulness in your life? Are you sharing the things He is doing to encourage and help give endurance to those around you?

So when I was challenged to write a blog I was thinking to myself who would want to read it. It still surprises me when people show up week after week to hear me talk about the bible. God's grace and mercy are so hard to understand and fathom. I often feel like I am the least of God's people often making clumsy mistakes, letting people down, not acting the way I should.... The thought that God uses me at all is often one of life's greatest mysteries. I guess He really meant what he said through Paul in 1Cor 1:27.

So if you ever feel like me... like you'll never do it right, like your not good enough, like you've got a lot to learn... be encouraged, you are the kind of person God is looking for to show Himself through.
